* * *
I’m quite positive that the Hector of my Life hasn’t come yet. He’s probably still on his way, I guess? But for the mean time, I consider my brother as the Hector of my life. He is the closest one to be.
Jeric is our youngest sibling and only brother. He is a grade one pupil at Holy Family Academy and will turn seven this September. In spite of being born here in the Philippines, he speaks English quite well and understands Tagalog and Kapampangan too. He is fascinated with Transformers, robots and all sorts of toys. He also loves illustrating these robots and he’s pretty good for a six-year-old.
Being the only boy, I marvel at his sweetness towards our parents and also other family members. I, myself, am not that open and free in approaching them; like I don’t usually tell them I love them unless it’s written on a card or something. But my brother tends to make them uplifted with a swift kiss, a comfy hug or even just a simple “Good morning.”
Over the summer two months ago, Ina, our sister who’s a year younger than me, and I used to have petty quarrels all the time so we usually don’t talk heart-to-heart often. While waiting for drowsiness to subside, Jeric and I would just lie down on the bed, enjoying the cold air from the aircon, during most nights. Then, he would just be silent for a moment and I would wonder what he’s thinking of; since for me, he’s still our baby. He would answer me that he’s thinking of something, like his dream the other night or just a story he came up with. I always feel speechless or so because I still have to think of what I would answer to him. Though I could write fluently in English, sadly I couldn’t speak it smooth and straight. However, he never fails to amaze me with his talking and all. The latest one yet is whenever I ask something, he would answer it although it isn’t addressed to him. I’m stunned for a while because he is often right. Then I would ask him, “How d’you know?” and he would say, “Because I know everything!” That makes me laugh every time.
So much for that! As long as I’m Hector-less, Jeric will always be my 2nd best guy in the world, next to our Daddy, of course. (I didn’t make my Dad as the Hector of my life since he’s already my Mom’s Hector. Joke! But kidding aside, I don’t like to write a dramatic piece so I just chose my cheerful brother.) Oh, and I love them both. That’s all, thanks!
